Hi! I’m the Rancher’s Daughter.
I live on my family’s ranch in Central Florida with my three sisters and little brother. I grew up running around in jeans with no shoes on, riding horses with my siblings, and working cows with my dad. What you might not suspect is that I also grew up with my nose in books, was on a first name basis with the local librarians, don’t like horse books, and love watching videos about historical dress (not that my sewing skills are anywhere close to that level).
What makes my ranch raising experience slightly different from the majority of American ranchers is that we do ranch in a subtropical climate, so some of our challenges are a little different than the rest of the country. I was also homeschooled, which is not uncommon in the ranching community, but still isn’t the majority, so I never had to worry about catching a school bus or missing school because of ranch life. It was not uncommon for my desk to be the bed of my dad’s truck. So, while ranchers do for the most part have a lot of shared experiences, mine do not include snowstorms, mountains, or an abundance of rocks.
With all of that being said, some other things you might want to know about me are that I went to a local college and graduated in 2020 with a BA in Agricultural Studies. I also work part time as a church secretary in the next town over. In addition, I help on my family’s ranch, ride horses, write for a local magazine, and write this blog!
P.S. I guess writing those bios for my online classes was actually a good life skill to learn.
